What is the purpose of your social media?

Social media is such a broad term, and covers many different concepts, but when we talk of social media we usually mean the online platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Pinterst, Google Plus and similar.

But we forget that Radio, Television, News papers, magazines and the like are also social media, and we generally neglect their impact on the online environment.

We will be discussing this question from a marketing perspective, and show how valuable social media actually is within the online marketing arena, and include the value of news papers, magazines, Radio TV and others.

I blog about a marketing philosophy called FUFISM or Functional User Friendly Integrated Social Media on the 4u brand blog (4ubrand.blogspot.com)  and will be using many of the principles of FUFISM in my explanation of the purpose of social media  within the online marketing arena

Before we go any further we need to understand some of the issues that impact on the online marketing environment, and the most important one,  in  my personal opinion , is the visibility that your online content gets with the SERP's or Search Engine Results Pages..

SEO or Search Engine Optimization is the art of ensuring that your online content  is discoverer, consumed and causes some re-action by your intended target market audience.  Hopefully the reaction by your intended target market audience is that they click on, activate and follow through with your desired CTA (Call To Action) within your online content.

The social media is basically a supplemental marketing platform which adds value to your web site and blog through a number of different avenues where link-building is the main SEO element, but not the only SEO element that is connected to your social media.

The social media is used for a very diverse range of marketing related tactics, and one does need to understand that many of these tactics have an independent SEO value , which is often hidden within the practical aspects of these tactics.   The STFSEOVI or Semantic Trust Factor Search Engine Optimization Value indicators associated with these different tactics also needs to be considered and worked into your approach when using these different social media tactics.

The value of SEO from a Public relations perspective is huge, and Public relations has an impact on the trust that your online audience have for your web site and blog.  This trust is used as part of your STFSEOVI and is important from an SEO perspective.

The social media is used extensively for content marketing,  and the SEO value of this is huge.  part and parcel of content marketing is the link building aspect, which we have already mentioned. Content marketing also adds to the intent of your online content, which we have also mentioned above.,

Thinking about these issues one can the see clearly that the social media is a means to promote your web site and your blog from an SEO perspective, as well as to induce your online audience to follow the links that lead to direct traffic for both your blog and your web pages. Keeping this line of thinking one can now see that the purpose of your social media is to promote your business, with a focus on using your web site and your blog as corner stones of communication, which will expand the topic of  specific social media posts further.

Your social media activity serves many other purposes, such as but not limited to:
  •  public relations, .
  • network building
  • general social networking,
  • content marketing
  • business promotion
  • general market and advertising
  • general social engagement
From a #FUFISM based marketing perspective the social media is used to  integrate all your marketing, both online and off line into one single well organized holistic marketing effort.

This means that you should be integrating your many different marketing efforts across platforms and across media into one single well managed holistic marketing plan.    This is not so difficult to achieve once you set the stage, and force all your marketing departments to use a common set of research tools, and store the different marketing insights of each marketing  platform in a common information retrieval system that can be accessed by every [person in your organization.

Demanding that the SEO and Social media teams comment on the success or failure of each marketing  campaign, and give reasons for the out come of each marketing campaign, which is made available to all persons working on any part of your marketing or sales campaigns also helps to inform marketers and management to understand the  value of integrating your marketing so that marketing efforts can be supported and expanded on across platforms and across different media.

It can thus be said that the social media should be  serving many different purposes, with the primary purpose being a tool to integrate all your marketing efforts into one single well organized holistic marketing plan, with the primary focus being on the promotion of your other online resources such as your web site and your blog among  many others.

What is the purpose of your blog

what is the purpose of your blog

your blog is like the pot of gold at the base of a rainbow.

As with your web site, the purpose  of your blog will not be the same for every business, how ever when using the OM4CP  (Online Marketing for {4} Cell Phones) marketing tactic there are many purposes that remain constant across all industries and organizations.  The biggest set of factors to consider here is the role that your blog will play in the supplemental marketing of your web site and the related SEO (Search Engine Optimization)  issues that come along for the ride.

Your blog will assume a multitude of purposes, and the supplemental marketing along with the associated SEO issues will be the biggest issue that you need to understand and integrate into your total marketing plan.

Your web site  should  always be the primary hub of your online presence and needs to be treated with top priority.  Your blog is always second on this list, and your web site should always quote posts and specific defined landing pages (not blog posts) within  your blog, and link to them in a manner that keeps the viewer interested and in your intended information flow loop for any specific conversion process or  sales funnel.

Some of the common purposes which your blog is used for,  that are relevant across all industries and organizations are listed below. There are indeed many more, but you will pick these up as you go along, and add them to your blog documentation as well as your marketing plan, and then integrate them into your total marketing plan..

  • general business Networking and network marketing through the comments system
  • link building with your web site,
  • promoting your web pages
  • promoting your business pages in the social media
  • promoting individuals within your company by promoting their personal social media profiles, as well as their bio pages which will reside  in either your web site or your blog, or perhaps both, depending on your business model and business needs.
  • promote your SEO or Search Engine Optimization, specific tactics and strategies
    • content marketing
    • Search Engine Marketing (SEM)
    • Inbound marketing
    • issues with your Semantic  footprint
    • reputation management control mechanisms and tactics
    • link building strategies with out side interests
  • building your online presence and online reputation management issues
  • fulfill a public relations role in association with the public relations role of your web pages and social media pages.
  • act as a conversion funnel or sales funnel complementary marketing strategy platform
Documentation is a very big issue and this needs to be addressed with your company wide documentation strategy.  If you are not documenting what you do, how you do it, and why you do things, you will run into all kinds of problems in the near future. By documenting the things that you do, along with the why and how parts in their own business strategy documentation systems, then you will have a means to observe your historical actions and the results of all your efforts.  without historical documentation, how will you be able to determine which business strategy has developed an ROI (Return On Investment)  and which business strategies are costing you and placing financial strain on your business.  If the high loss causing strategies are your MARKETING and ADVERTISING strategies, then you need to take some action, as these should be bringing you in some revenue and not be running at a loss.

Your blog is not a very cheap thing to run, as it has a very serious labor element  as well as some specialist costs that need to be covered.  WE do understand that BLOGSPOT.COM is a free service, but you may need expert services of an image creator / editor, a copywriter, an HTML  coder, and SEO consultant or other  specialist advice, which does not come very cheaply.

Before you hire any of these specialists to work on your blog,  you will need to have all your ducks in a row, and documenting the purpose, aims, objectives and intent of your blog is one of the more important issues that need to be addressed.  The set of  documents listed here describing your policies and procedures need to be introduced to your staff and related marketing partners through a set of company documentation
strategies, that includes but is not limited to
  • your blogging policy
    • your blog's purpose, aims Objectives and intent  should be described within this document
  • your web site policy
    • your website's  purpose, aims Objectives and intent  should be described within this document describing your  web site policy
  • your online marketing policy
    • the purpose, aims, objectives and intent  of your online marketing should be well defined in this document.
    • how you plan to integrate your online and off line marketing should be described here
  • your off line marketing policy
    • the FUFISM based  integration of your online and off line  marketing should be well described here
    • how you intend to integrate your online and offline marketing should be described here
  • your total marketing policy (FUFISM based integrated marketing)
    • the integration strategies in other documentation needs to be referenced here along with how these will be managed by your marketing manager in conjunction with your SEO (Search Engine Optimization) manger
  • your social media policy
    • how your social media efforts will be integrated  into your other marketing, as listed below needs to be highlighted and well understood by all persons working on any portion of your marketing, both online and offline.
      • your website
      • your blog
      • your offline marketing
        • PRINT MEDIA focusing on but not limited to news papers and magazines
        • radio
        •  road shows, trade fairs and industry specific events
  • your basic business plan, including your marketing plan and related procedures.
You blog needs to be well maintained as well as  properly managed with the intent to ensure effectively arranged and  properly integrated marketing with your website taking primary attention, your blog being in second place, your off line marketing being in third spot, and the social media being the primary integration tool, which integrates these three marketing platforms into one single marketing strategy.

your new blog needs proper palnning. just as you planned your day from sunrise to sun set, so you need to plan your blog before you start doing wrong things...Your blog  will thus form the back bone of your supplemental marketing for your web site, and be the core of your supplemental marketing efforts that is backed up by your social media marketing efforts, where link building for both your blog and your web site are two of the most critical areas that need serious attention.  Your blog should be seen as the primary traffic driver to your website, and  blog posts should focus on single pages within your website, or specific topics that are related to the core of your business operations.

Once you have created the documentation describing the purpose, aims, objectives and intent of your web site, keep this document handy, and refer to it when you create the document discussing the purpose, aims, objectives and intent of your blog, as well as when you create your blog site policies.

Before writing your web site and blog policy documentation,  have your business plan with your core value proposition completed, as you will need to refer to this in these new documents describing your online policies and related procedural documentation.

Be sure to understand and document the purpose of your blog, according to your business model, and your core business value proposition that you want the public to understand and act on.

Failure to document the aims, objectives purpose and intent of your blog and web site makes many other issues very difficult to complete with any success.  This documentation discussing the intent and purpose of your online assets is the key to successful online marketing, and the value of these documents should never be underestimated.

As with our website your,  blog serves a multitude of purposes, within your marketing and advertising strategies, and each of these purposes needs to be listed in your business plan, and then also listed in your marketing plan, as well as in your business policy documentation.

What is the purpose of your web site?

What is the purpose of your web site?

The purpose of your web site is not the same for every business, and you will need to define this according to your business needs.

When using the OM4CP online marketing approach there are a few different things that one needs to understand very clearly, and the purpose of your web site is one of the major issues that you need to have a very clear understanding and well documented interpretation of.

The OM4CP marketing technique has four major FUFISM based  pillars that each need to be integrated into your total marketing plan. these are

  1. your  website
  2. your blog
  3. your social media marketing efforts
  4. your offline marketing efforts.
Your web site will form your core online marketing platform and serve a multitude of DIFFERENT  purposes, so you do need to understand how your website will function and what the purpose, aims, objectives and intent of your website are.  Defining the the purpose of your web site is one of the first parts of your OM4CP marketing project, and you need to take care that you document the procedure that you used to derive this purpose, then also have a policy document in place that will guide you further, as this purpose may change, and have additional elements added and some removed as time goes on.  You should keep well documented records of the decisions taken during the investigation into what functions your web site is expected to perform, and how these will be managed, as this will help you in your efforts to document the purpose of your web site.

Always remember that your website is your primary online communications tool, and that you blog and social media activities are in place to enhance and distribute the communication efforts  and information flow patterns that are generated within your web pages.

The aims and objectives as well as the intent of your web site also need to be documented, and these will help you to define the purpose of your website.  It is a good idea to brain storm what functions you want your web site to perform, and document these activities.  Remember that this is for a small business that has few resources, so do not go over board, but rather limit the  the functions that you want your web site to perform to a few core business functions such as but not exclusive to
  • generate leads for the sales team
  • handle customer queries with the help of social media pages
  • inform customers of where your business is and what you do
  • show case your primary products and services
You business needs will dictate what you include as the core core functions of your web site, so be sure to have a very clear and well documented business action plan that dictates what your business does, and who your customers are, along with how you are going to convince these folks that they should use your services or buy your products.  You should update this action plan to include your OM4CP project.

Defining the purpose of your web site is not an easy task, but it is also not rocket science.  You just need to be very clear on what your business does, who your customers are, and how you want to communicate with your customers, your suppliers and those who have an interest in your business.  Once you have this information documented then defining the purpose of your web site is quite simple.  The issue is that you need to have all the other information about your business first, and this can be quite time consuming, but is an essential part of your business planning that needs to be done anyway.

What is SEO and how does SEO fit into your MARKETING strategies?

The OM4CP project is in place to help small businesses with their online marketing efforts in ways that allow them to be very competitive and put their products, services and related information out there for their intended target market to find and consume, and ensure good well placed search rankings.

For this to be successful the participants of the OM4CP marketing project will need to clearly understand what SEO or Search Engine Optimisation is, and how it should be integrated into their total marketing plan. This post hopes to start that process by explaining some of the key areas that need to be understood and integrated into any online marketing plan.

First lets start with some definitions of SEO and a few links to the 4u brand blog where these topics are expanded and discussed in  more detail.  SEO or Search Engine Optimization is all the work done by your marketing team, and their various service providers.

SEO is not limited to all that sneaky and devious  in page stuff such as page title, page descriptions along with other meta data stuck in the head section of the HTML code and other sneaky and hard to understand meta mark-up within the body section of your HTML code.  SEO has three basic sections which each need to be treated separately, but all three need to be integrated collectively into your marketing plan, as leading influences,  that need to be considered properly,  when assembling any marketing package, immaterial of which  media this marketing content will be delivered to your intended target market.

visit the 4u brand blog for more info on FUFISMWhat I am trying to say here is that SEO or search engine optimisation, should be a major part of every marketing initiative that you undertake, including all print media, all radio ads, and in your general conversation with your customers and prospects.   Right now this may sound a bit strange, but as we progress and you get to understand that SEO is an all inclusive issue that must be done from the start and not as a later add in.

The three sections of all Search Engine Optimisation effort are listed here

1 ) #IPSEO or In Page Search Engine Optimisation
2 ) #OPSEO or Off Page, but Online Search Engine Optimisation
3)  #OLSEO or Off Line Search Engine Optimisation

The other day a I wrote a post discussing the value of SEO to your business which you can read here

SEO or search engine optimization is a very big field and there are many issues that need to be considered.  If you try to do all at once it is a bit daunting, so just think of the SEO process as many small steps, then work out what needs to be done to complete one step at a time.

so  SEO is very valuable to your business, as it helps you to get your business closer to the top of the lists  in the SERP's (Search Engine Results Pages)

Take your time and read up about SEO. take what others have to say into consideration, and do what you believe to be right for your business.  Worrying too much about SEO can cause many hours of productive time to be wasted. when writing stuff for your intended target market audience, think about the words that they use in their every day life, and write with them in mind, because those are the words that will be used within search queries.

Another definition of SEO is that Search Engine Optimisation is the tool box that you as a content provider make available to a search engine so that a search engine can build the structures that hold the pathways between your target market audience and your online content.  If you look at SEO as the tool kit that search engines use to connect your audience to your content, and you know your audience, then you can spply a better tool kit.  Remember that this toolkit needs  three layers so that each of the three components may be worked on with its own set of tools, where some tools are common in all three sections, but some are very specific and only work within their specialized spaces.

leave a comment discussing what you want to know about, and we will try to address that either here, or in the 4ubrand.blogspot.com  blog.

The OM4CP project is a FUFISM based marketing initiative aimed at small and micro businesses.  this project will enable those at the very bottom of the business ladder to get a very big advantage over those who are not willing to use technology within their marketing strategies.  The costs are relatively small, most already have smart phones as business communication tools, and all the software comes along as freeware when using Gmail, as these are the free basic services that Google offers to entice users to offer up their data.
